Winter Survival Tips

Now we’ve had the clocks go back, we are losing light earlier, and winter is truly here… oh how the nights of it still be light at 10 o’clock feel like a distant memory. We all know the weather changes can have a negative affect on our mental health, so we need to do what we can to avoid feeling sad, tired and frustrated.

It’s been a pretty rubbish year, we won’t sugar coat it, so one thing we don’t need is the winter blues. That’s why we have compiled a list of our top tips to look after yourself this winter:

Spending time outside

I know, I know, spending time outside just as it’s getting colder!? No thank you… but it’s a proven fact that fresh air and sunlight helps our mood. So, what better excuse to buy yourself a nice new winter coat and get outside! Find yourself a new podcast to get stuck into, we’ve got a variety of recommendations to get you started:

Private Parts – Jamie Laing and Francis Boulle

Happy Hour with Lucy & Nikki

Grounded with Louis Theroux

The High Low – Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton

Or ring a friend to catch up with while taking in some rays (well, probably not rays). This is especially important now so many of us #WFH, if we’re not careful there’ll be days you get no fresh air or any steps in at all.

Start making affirmations

It can feel a bit cringey, we know… but they don’t have to be daily, maybe just when you feel like it and you can keep them brief.  They’ll help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. Here’s an example of some below:

Keep up the exercise!

It can be hard, but even a 10-minute blast will release endorphins, helping you feel more positive and able to concentrate. Get the lyrca on!

Taking care of your skin

This might mean switching up your regime, like swapping to richer, more hydrating creams. A top tip is to massage your creams into your skin for 30 seconds to maximise its effects! (Must try!)

Having baths – it’s nothing ground-breaking, but baths provide that all-important relaxation to switch off, as well as bewinter skincing an amazing way to hydrate the skin.
