05 Nov Winter Survival Tips
Now we’ve had the clocks go back, we are losing light earlier, and winter is truly here… oh how the nights of it still be light at 10 o’clock feel like a distant memory. We all know the weather changes can have a negative affect on our mental health, so we need to do what we can to avoid feeling sad, tired and frustrated.
It’s been a pretty rubbish year, we won’t sugar coat it, so one thing we don’t need is the winter blues. That’s why we have compiled a list of our top tips to look after yourself this winter:
Spending time outside
I know, I know, spending time outside just as it’s getting colder!? No thank you… but it’s a proven fact that fresh air and sunlight helps our mood. So, what better excuse to buy yourself a nice new winter coat and get outside! Find yourself a new podcast to get stuck into, we’ve got a variety of recommendations to get you started:
Private Parts – Jamie Laing and Francis Boulle
Happy Hour with Lucy & Nikki
Grounded with Louis Theroux
The High Low – Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton
Or ring a friend to catch up with while taking in some rays (well, probably not rays). This is especially important now so many of us #WFH, if we’re not careful there’ll be days you get no fresh air or any steps in at all.
It can feel a bit cringey, we know… but they don’t have to be daily, maybe just when you feel like it and you can keep them brief. They’ll help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. Here’s an example of some below:
Keep up the exercise!
It can be hard, but even a 10-minute blast will release endorphins, helping you feel more positive and able to concentrate. Get the lyrca on!
Taking care of your skin
This might mean switching up your regime, like swapping to richer, more hydrating creams. A top tip is to massage your creams into your skin for 30 seconds to maximise its effects! (Must try!)
If you are looking for some new skincare products to get you through the cold, we’ve picked some of our can’t-live-without favourites:
Perfect if you’re suffering from dry skin, the VITAL C Hydrating Overnight Masque locks in moisture and vital nutrients as you get your beauty sleep. The blue-green algae extract, a natural retinoid alternative, helps to smooth skin and diminish wrinkles. Hematite and malachite provide unique mineral radiance for stressed skin. Wake up with intensely hydrated, glowing skin.
Yes, you need SPF even though the weather is like this. UVA rays can penetrate clouds and windows, there really is no escaping them. This SPF 30 moisturiser does exactly what we need it to and exactly what we don’t want it to do; it absorbs quickly, delivering broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, it offers lasting hydration, it doesn’t leave you with a white cast or residue and it’s great for sensitive skin. It’s a yes from us!
Check out @lucyparts Instagram for her explanation of the importance of daily SPF, as well as all her other great five-star tips on skincare products… we can’t get enough of them!
We all know tan helps with looking that bit better and healthier, especially going into winter. Add the Crystal Clear Beach Glow Tan Drops to your usual moisturiser to promote a healthy glow while softening and moisturising the skin, without the nasty smell.
Gently wash the day away with the Crystal Clear Soothing Cleansing Gel. It’s full of vitamins and nourishing properties to hydrate, calm and revitalise the skin. Cucumber extract intensively moisturises and soothes while mineral salts and amino acids rebalance skin to visibly improve radiance.
We hope this helps you fight the frost… and remember, self care isn’t selfish, it’s important.
